El Salvador International Airport is gearing up for one of the busiest seasons of the year, expecting approximately 770,000 passengers during December, including arrivals, departures, and connecting flights. The Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA) is coordinating efforts with various institutions to ensure efficient service and a pleasant experience for travelers who choose El Salvador as their destination or connecting point.

CEPA President Federico Anliker highlighted that these preparations are part of the second phase of the El Salvador International Airport Modernization Plan, a US$245 million investment to be implemented over three years. This phase includes the construction of seven new baggage carousels, bringing the terminal’s total to eleven, as well as modern offices for Immigration, Customs, and the Airport National Civil Police, strengthening service and institutional coordination.

During the first phase of the plan, the government invested US$102 million in expanding the passenger terminal, the check-in area, improving the electrical infrastructure, upgrading the secondary radar, and connecting the photovoltaic plant to the main substation. With these improvements, the airport is positioned as the most modern and efficient in the region.

Currently, the airport has handled 4.1 million passengers so far this year, with more than 39,000 flight operations and an average of 18 cargo flights per week. These figures reflect the dynamism of El Salvador’s aviation sector and the government’s commitment to continue promoting projects that strengthen connectivity, investment, and the country’s development.

Anliker said that the main objective is to meet the growing demand for air travel and ensure that every traveler finds comfortable, top-notch facilities. “We are preparing to welcome thousands of salvadorans and visitors from around the world, with an airport that rivals the best in Latin America”, stated the head of CEPA.
