The Government of El Salvador has highlighted a reduction in the prices of essential foodstuffs, ranging between 8% and 20%. This achievement is attributed to the economic strategies implemented to stabilize the cost of living and strengthen the country’s economy. These policies seek to guarantee the well-being of Salvadoran families by protecting their purchasing power.
Ricardo Salazar, president of the Defensoría del Consumidor, informed that, in spite of the recent rains, markets and supply centers have maintained a constant supply of essential products. This stability has allowed that, far from registering price increases, decreases have been observed in products such as cabbage, dark güisquil, salad tomato, colored chili, white güisquil and white onion.
The decrease in prices is the result of improved supply chains, driven by government initiatives such as the Agromercados and the Central de Abastos. These measures have ensured a more efficient distribution of basic foodstuffs, allowing for greater price competitiveness and a continuous supply for consumers.
In addition to these efforts, the Salvadoran Government is active in consumer protection during events such as “Black Friday”. The Defensoría del Consumidor performs constant monitoring to ensure that the rights of buyers are not violated.
Citizens also have access to digital tools, such as the Precompra platform, where they can consult more than 1,500 prices of technology and household products. This allows them to compare prices and plan their purchases strategically.
With these actions, the Government of President Bukele reinforces its commitment to economic stability, access to products at fair prices and the protection of consumer rights in the country.
