The Vice Minister of Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería, Óscar Domínguez, highlighted the progress in national production of staple grains, especially beans and corn, as part of a strategy aimed at strengthening the agricultural economy and contributing to price stability for the population.
In a post on social media, Domínguez indicated that the government is applying the same model used to boost vegetable production to increase staple grain production, prioritizing coordinated efforts among trade associations, cooperatives, and small-scale producers. This approach seeks to increase domestic supply and reduce dependence on imports.
The official emphasized that increased local production translates into better prices for consumers and greater income opportunities for farmers, directly impacting food security and the country’s rural economy.
The strategy, implemented with the support of President Nayib Bukele’s administration, aims to strengthen the agricultural production chain through technical assistance, producer organization, and collaboration with various sectors of agriculture. The goal is to consolidate sustainable harvests that contribute to economic stability and the development of El Salvador’s agricultural sector.
