The air cargo terminal at the Aeropuerto Internacional “San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez” will begin an expansion and modernization process with an investment of nearly US$50 million, aimed at strengthening the logistics infrastructure and increasing the country’s operational capacity.
The cornerstone of the project was laid by Federico Anliker, president of the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA). According to the expansion plan, upon reaching 47,000 metric tons per year, a second phase will be activated, which includes an investment of US$47.2 million for the design, construction, equipment, maintenance, and operation of a new terminal, with the capacity to handle more than 73,000 metric tons per year.
The executive director of the Autoridad de Aviación Civil (AAC), Homero Morales, indicated that the expansion will improve logistical efficiency, boost foreign trade, and generate employment in the area.
The project seeks not only to increase the airport’s operational and logistical capacity but also to boost foreign investment, boost exports, and generate more direct and indirect jobs in the sector.
With this investment, El Salvador strengthens its commitment to the modernization of air transport and economic competitiveness, positioning itself as a strategic hub for international cargo in the Central American region.
