In a gesture of openness to dialogue and commitment to the public, the Mayor of San Salvador, Mario Durán, granted an extension for the voluntary withdrawal of self-employed merchants operating in Plaza 14 de Julio and La Placita, as part of the recovery and reorganization process of San Salvador’s Historic Center.

During a direct meeting with the vendors, the mayor listened to their concerns and needs, reaffirming his commitment to moving forward with urban transformation projects without neglecting the well-being and livelihoods of families who depend on informal trade.
The decision was welcomed by the merchants, who expressed their gratitude for the empathy and willingness to engage in dialogue shown by the mayor. “We are grateful because they have given us more time, and this allows us to organize ourselves better”, commented one of the beneficiary vendors.

The reorganization process seeks to recover public spaces, improve the urban image, and guarantee a safer and more orderly environment for all salvadorans. However, the mayor’s office has insisted that the transformations must be humane and inclusive, guaranteeing alternatives and support for those who will be impacted.
With this extension, the mayor reaffirms his commitment to working with the population, building a more modern capital without losing sight of the social reality of many salvadorans.

“We will continue with this process, but we will do so by listening to and respecting our people”, Durán said.
