
More than US$31 million will be allocated to strengthening El Salvador’s healthcare system following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the salvadoran government and the United States. The funds will enable the promotion of actions for the prevention, detection, and control of infectious diseases, reinforcing the public system’s response capacity.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexandra Hill Tinoco; the minister of Health, Francisco Alabi; and the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in the country, Naomi Fellows.

During the ceremony, the foreign minister said that the main objective of this strategic alliance is to strengthen healthcare and protect the lives of the salvadoran population. She noted that the agreement consolidates bilateral cooperation in a priority area such as public health and responds to clear goals aimed at the sustainability of the system.
The resources will enable the strengthening of epidemiological surveillance programs, improve early diagnosis processes, and reinforce prevention strategies for communicable diseases. They will also contribute to optimizing the technical capacity of health personnel and consolidating response mechanisms to potential outbreaks.

The U.S. diplomatic representative emphasized that this initiative reaffirms the commitment to cooperation between the two nations in the fight against communicable diseases, highlighting the importance of working in a coordinated manner to achieve sustainable results that benefit the population.
Minister Alabi noted that the agreement represents an important step toward reducing health risks and addressing epidemiological threats in a technical manner. He indicated that having strategic allies strengthens the timely detection of diseases and saves lives.

The authorities also highlighted that this cooperation adds to the progress made by the public health system in recent years, including the modernization of hospital infrastructure, the acquisition of medical technology, and the strengthening of drug supply.
With this investment of over US$31 million, El Salvador and the United States are consolidating an alliance focused on improving the capacity of the health system and ensuring more efficient and preventive care for the population.
