The Ministry of Labor announced today the launch of a nationwide verification operation as part of the “Defend Your Christmas Bonus” plan, a strategy aimed at ensuring the timely and complete payment of this employee benefit during the end-of-year season.
Minister of Labor Rolando Castro reported that more than 700 Ministry staff will be deployed nationwide to monitor employers’ compliance with the payment of Christmas bonuses within the legally established deadlines. The operation has a preventative focus and seeks to avoid the delays that, in previous years, required inspections even in the first months of the following year.

Castro explained that the plan has been in place since 2019 and represents a full mobilization of the Ministry of Labor as part of its public service function. He also noted that following a legal reform, the period for paying the Christmas bonus was extended from october 20 to december 20, while the deadline for fulfilling this obligation remains unchanged.
The Minister of Labor emphasized that the deployment will focus exclusively on the private sector, as the Christmas bonus payments in the public sector have already been completed. He indicated that this allows the Ministry to dedicate all institutional resources to supervising companies in the productive sector.

The minister reiterated that companies have until this saturday to pay their employees their full Christmas bonus, warning that the government maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward labor rights violations.
With this operation, authorities seek to reinforce compliance with the law and protect one of the most important rights of the Salvadoran working class at the end of the year.
