With the remodeling of the School Center of the canton of El Cortez, in the district of San Pedro Puxtla, in Ahuachapán Sur, the Directorate of Municipal Works surpasses the 80 projects that are being developed simultaneously at a national level.
This school, which is part of the presidential program “Mi Nueva Escuela”, is in a rural area of more than 2 thousand square meters and about 3 kilometers from the urban area of San Pedro Puxtla; it was built about 60 years ago and has not been properly maintained.
During the week it serves 271 students from kindergarten to ninth grade and on saturdays 41 more students in the distance learning high school program.

The project consists of remodeling 6 classrooms which are completely deteriorated and have water leaks. Also to be intervened are the administration, a chalet, kitchen, library, storage room and even a small area for civic events. New doors, windows, desks, desks, desks, electrical system, and ceilings with thermo-acoustic covers will be installed.
A restroom area will be built, leaving behind a septic tank and other bathrooms that had been damaged. An area of small tables and concrete benches, water storage tanks and a perimeter fence will be rebuilt and transformed into a wall with prefabricated material, and the soccer field is made of dirt and its goals are rusted, so it will be transformed into a multifunctional concrete field.

The new school will also have a facade, signage, new floors, and free Internet.
This is the 12th school being built in Ahuachapán. Only in the west of the country 6 have already been rebuilt and 26 more are under construction, while 3 more will begin the process in the coming days. Twelve have already been delivered nationwide.
This is not the only work that the DOM is building in the canton of El Cortez, in San Pedro Puxtla, since the improvement with asphalt of the rural street of 4.16 kilometers that passes right in front of this school to be remodeled is in progress.

In Ahuachapán, the DOM has also revitalized the historic centers of Apaneca and Ataco as part of the strengthening of the Las Flores tourist route and the execution of more than 40 kilometers of urban and rural streets through the road improvement program and the Plan Nacional de Bacheo.
