El Salvador is taking firm steps towards a more secure and sustainable energy future. During the Energy 2025 Regional Symposium, the country presented its strategy to diversify its energy matrix, highlighting nuclear energy as a key option.
This initiative seeks to guarantee long-term electricity supply and strengthen integration with the regional market.

The Director General of Energy, Hydrocarbons and Mines, Daniel Álvarez, pointed out that El Salvador is actively working to identify strategic sites for its first nuclear plant. He also emphasized the importance of international alliances to advance technological development and the training of professionals in the sector.

Electricity integration with Central America was also a central topic at the event. Industry experts agreed that regional interconnection will optimize generation costs and improve the stability of the electricity system, benefiting millions of citizens. El Salvador, with its vision of modernization, is committed to strengthening this cooperation.

The country’s commitment to sustainability was another key point. Nuclear energy, combined with renewable sources such as geothermal and solar, could reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions. This approach reinforces national and international climate change goals.
El Salvador is moving forward with determination on its path towards a more diversified, resilient, and competitive energy matrix. With strategic investments and international cooperation, the country seeks to consolidate itself as a reference in innovation and sustainability in the region.
