A group of salvadoran temporary workers are leaving for Canada as part of the Labor Migration Program, an initiative designed by the Salvadoran government to offer formal employment abroad and reduce irregular migration.
The beneficiaries come from communities in the Barra de Santiago canton, in the municipality of Jujutla, Ahuachapán, and are traveling with the hope of improving their families’ economic situation and demonstrating their work skills abroad.
Labor Minister Rolando Castro said, “They are embarking on a journey with suitcases full of dreams, which we hope will come true, that they will be the pride of their communities and demonstrate their skills abroad”.
Castro recalled that the program was implemented in 2019, with a focus on dignity and formal employment opportunities, benefiting hundreds of Salvadorans and their families to date. In addition to Canada, workers have also been sent to the United States, Costa Rica, Spain, and France.
The Labor Migration Program continues to consolidate its position as one of the government’s most successful programs, providing decent employment and contributing to the economic development of beneficiaries and their communities.
