The Dirección Nacional de Protección Civil declared a stratified orange alert for the 13 municipalities of the coastal strip and a yellow alert for the rest of the country, due to the approach of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and low pressure in the Pacific Ocean, according to Special Weather Report No. 5 from the Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (MARN).

According to the report, both systems maintain a high level of humidity, which will increase rainfall in the volcanic chain, mountainous areas, and the Salvadoran coast in the coming days. In addition, the soil is already highly saturated, which increases the risk of landslides and mudslides.
Among the measures ordered, all Sectoral Technical Commissions and Municipal Civil Protection Commissions were instructed to activate their situation rooms, establish 12-hour operational shifts, and maintain constant monitoring of the phenomenon’s development.
The Fire Department, National Civil Police, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of the Interior, and Armed Forces shall carry out specific search and rescue operations, set up shelters, provide medical care, and handle mitigation and logistics, according to their respective areas of competence.

Likewise, the population is called upon to:
• Avoid crossing rivers or streams during rainfall.
• Exercise caution when traveling through areas at risk of landslides or falling trees.
• Secure roofs and objects that could be blown away by the wind.
• Prepare an emergency backpack with documents, food, and medicine.
• Pay attention to official information from Civil Protection and comply with preventive evacuations.
Finally, MARN is monitoring the evolution of weather systems, while the Ministry of Education will evaluate the measures to be implemented in public and private educational centers.
