With the opening of a modern road, over 2.5 kilometers long and 6.5 meters wide, with an asphalt surface, serving the hamlets of Punta El Jocote and El Carmen, in the El Huisquil canton of the Conchagua district in La Unión Sur, the government of President Nayib Bukele, through the DOM fulfilled the dream of the residents of this area in eastern El Salvador.
This road, which connects to the highway to La Unión and the CA-2 coastal highway, also fulfills the dream of Anderson Misael Reyes Salazar, a 13-year-old boy who died of kidney failure. His father used to carry him from the coastal area to the hospital along dirt roads and deteriorated paths for medical treatment. In his honor, the municipality will name this road after him.

Its comprehensive reconstruction included technical soil studies, a rigorous leveling and compaction process, the construction of a cement-stabilized soil base, and the application of a 7-centimeter-thick asphalt layer, ensuring durability and high quality.
In addition, two pedestrian walkways made of hydraulic concrete were built, each 2.5 meters wide and 15 centimeters thick. Longitudinal drainage systems—such as curbs, gutters, and gutters—and transverse drainage systems, including culverts and 36-inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe, were installed along the project route to ensure proper water runoff into a nearby ravine.

As part of the drainage system, 36-inch reinforced concrete pipe, a catch basin, and a discharge headwall were installed. End caps or stop beams were also constructed at all junctions between the road and existing drainage systems to protect the road structure. To guarantee safe passage for pedestrians and drivers, the route was marked with both vertical and horizontal signage.

This project provided employment for more than 121 people, mostly local residents—and directly benefited over 5,000 residents of the El Huisquil canton and the hamlets of Punta El Jocote and El Carmen. It also boosts tourism by connecting the town of Conchagua with La Unión Bay, the fishing boat area, agricultural zones, and expanding urban areas within the district.

The El Huisquil canton is known for its artisanal fishing, primarily for shrimp and various fish species, due to its proximity to La Unión Bay and the Gulf of Fonseca. It also engages in subsistence farming and livestock raising, cultivating corn and sorghum, as well as local commercial and logistical activities.

This is the third project delivered by DOM to the families of Conchagua. The first project was inaugurated on july 16, 2023, and consisted of the improvement of 1.8 kilometers of road with an asphalt surface in Playa Blanca. The second project was the main road to the hamlet of Chachagua, which also connects to the hamlets of El Garrapatal, El Carreto, Piedras Blancas, and Palo Blanco.
At the departmental level, in La Unión, the DOM is developing more than 60 projects, 39 of which have been completed and delivered to the residents of different districts:

31 road construction projects totaling more than 90 linear kilometers of urban and rural streets.
1 municipal market in Concepción de Oriente
1 school in the hamlet of El Molino, Concepción de Oriente
1 health unit in the district of San José La Fuente
1 multipurpose hall
1 bridge in Lislique.
