In july 2024, salvadoran imports showed a slight increase of 0.7%, reaching a total of US$9.132.5 million. This increase of US$67.3 million compared to the same month last year reflects a slight upward trend in foreign acquisitions.
The United States remains El Salvador’s main trading partner in terms of imports, with a total of US$2,604.1 million. The People’s Republic of China follows with US$1,414.4 million. Other countries on the list of major suppliers include Guatemala with US$892.6 million, Mexico with US$786.2 million and Honduras with US$445.8 million.
Nicaragua, Costa Rica and South Korea also stand out in the area of imports. Among the most imported products, oils lead with a value of US$1,062.7 million. Petroleum gas remains in importance with US$347.1 million, while medicines reach US$312.5 million. Vehicles represent US$243.3 million in imports, and telephones US$221.5 million. Other notable imports include maize, cheese and machinery.
This reflects the diversification of imports from El Salvador, which seeks to meet both domestic consumption and production needs.
