El Salvador projects more than US$3.5 billion in foreign exchange earnings from tourism in 2025, driven by the arrival of 4 million international visitors, a goal achieved as of december 14, according to the Ministerio de Turismo. This result consolidates the sector as one of the main drivers of economic growth in the country.
At the end of the year, the impact of tourism intensified. Between december 20 and 28, 2025, the country received 160,000 international visitors, which generated a significant increase in the consumption of tourism goods and services, especially in destinations with high visitor numbers during the holiday season.
Tourism minister Morena Valdez explained that foreign exchange earnings come from the entire value chain of the sector, which includes food and restaurants (such as cafes and pupuserías), accommodations ranging from hostels and hotels to bungalows, as well as tourist transportation, guides, tour operators, and the operation of public and private tourist sites.
This influx of revenue has boosted local economies and directly benefited micro, small, and medium-sized entrepreneurs whose businesses are part of the national tourism offering. Visitor spending is spread across multiple activities, strengthening employment and commercial activity in different regions of the country.
Valdez highlighted that these results are the fruit of coordinated work between the government and the private sector, through advisory and support programs aimed at raising the quality of service and competitiveness of El Salvador as a destination.
As part of this strategy, the Ministerio de Turismo maintains ongoing coordination with the Cámara Salvadoreña de Turismo (Casatur) and with entrepreneurs in the interior of the country. In addition, the Corporación Salvadoreña de Turismo (Corsatur) has conducted tours in the western, eastern, Chalatenango, and Morazán regions to identify development opportunities and strengthen local attractions.
Among the most visited public sites during the season were the Christmas Village in the Centro Histórico, the Biblioteca Nacional de El Salvador (Binaes), the Complejo Turístico del Puerto de La Libertad, Sunset Park and Parque Natural Balboa, reflecting the growing interest of national and international visitors.
