US President Donald J. Trump announced his decision to increase the military budget for fiscal year 2027 from $1 trillion to $1.5 trillion, arguing that the measure is necessary to guarantee national security in an international context he described as “turbulent and dangerous”.
According to the president, the decision was made after extensive negotiations with senators, congressmen, secretaries, and other political representatives. The central objective of the budget increase is to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and build what he called a “Dream Army”, capable of confronting any external threat and keeping the United States “safe and secure”, regardless of the adversary.

Trump argued that this increase is possible thanks to the revenue generated by tariffs imposed on other countries, which, according to him, have allowed for the collection of amounts that would have been unthinkable in the past. According to the president, these additional resources make it possible not only to increase military spending but also to manage the finances in a way that allows progress in reducing the national debt.
The president stated that, without this tariff revenue, he would have kept the defense budget at the original level of $1 trillion. However, he emphasized that the strength of current tax collection allows the new figure to be reached without compromising other economic priorities of the country.

In addition to military strengthening, Trump indicated that the budget plan includes the possibility of allocating resources to direct economic benefits for moderate-income citizens, whom he referred to as “patriots”, through a dividend funded by the country’s fiscal performance.
The proposal to raise the military budget to $1.5 trillion places defense among the administration’s top priorities for 2027 and anticipates intense debate in Congress, where the impact of the increase on public finances, fiscal policy, and U.S. national security strategy will have to be discussed.
