U.S. companies have suffered losses estimated at US$300 billion due to their exit from the Russian market, according to Kiril Dmitriev, head of the economic area in the recent negotiations between Russia and the United States.
This figure reflects the impact of sanctions and the breakdown of trade relations between the two powers.
The United States has met with Russia to reach a ceasefire and peace agreement in Ukraine, given that this country is one of the world’s main grain exporters. Ukraine, considered the “breadbasket of Europe”, is the second largest exporter of wheat and other crops essential for global food security.

Against this background, Russia and the U.S. have agreed to set up a process on the Ukrainian settlement and to appoint negotiators. In addition, both sides have agreed to reestablish their embassy staffs in Moscow and Washington to normalize their diplomatic relations.

The talks, which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marked the first direct dialogue in years between the two countries amid the conflict in Ukraine. The U.S. delegation was led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while the Russian side was headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The Kremlin has reiterated that President Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymir Zelensky, although it has expressed doubts about his legitimacy. Dmitri Peskov, presidential spokesman, stated that this issue could complicate any agreement between the two sides.

The economic impact of sanctions remains a key point of contention in relations between Moscow and Washington, which are seeking to redefine their stance on the conflict in Ukraine. The meeting in Riyadh could be the first step toward a broader diplomatic rapprochement in the future.
