Last wednesday, june 18, the United States government held an official ceremony to complete construction of the Centro de Entrenamiento de Operaciones de Paz (CEOPAZ), located at the Engineer Command of the Fuerza Armada de El Salvador. The new facilities, with an investment of approximately US$3 million over a three-year period, strengthen the preparation of salvadoran military personnel participating in international peacekeeping missions.

The ceremony was presided over by the Director of Strategy, Policy, and Planning of the United States Southern Command, Major General William L. Cheater, and Vice Admiral Oswaldo Ascencio Albeño, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Fuerza Armada de El Salvador. “Our nations share a common vision: to train and deploy forces that protect innocent people, prevent conflict, and stabilize the most vulnerable regions. […] These facilities are another step toward achieving this mission of stability together”, Major General Cheater said during his speech.

The construction includes new barracks, a new gymnasium building, an obstacle course, covered parking, and a complete remodeling of the headquarters. These facilities will help military personnel better prepare for international missions in support of peace.

The United States prioritizes regional security to ensure the safety of all. With the renewal of CEOPAZ, the U.S. government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the capabilities of its partners in the region. This type of cooperation not only improves the readiness of the Fuerza Armada de El Salvador but also promotes regional stability and directly contributes to U.S. national security.
