The Viceministerio de Transporte (VMT) of El Salvador has implemented a comprehensive safety plan to ensure a safe and peaceful August holiday for domestic and international tourists. This effort is based on a preventative approach, with institutions working in a coordinated manner to minimize risks and respond swiftly to any road emergencies that may arise.

One of the main components of this strategy is the strengthening of vehicle controls. Checkpoints have been installed along the country’s main routes, including drug testing for drivers, speed checks, and documentation checks. These measures seek to reduce road accidents, especially in high-traffic areas such as beaches, natural parks, and urban centers.
VMT Head Nelson Reyes highlighted the actions implemented. “We are focusing on preventing traffic accidents. We have speed reduction controls, such as at the El Papaturro curve, a heavily signposted road; There are lights, logarithmic vibrators, even a radar showing the speed at which vehicles are traveling”, he said.

Public transportation and freight transport are also being rigorously monitored. Technical inspections have been implemented to ensure that vehicles are operating in optimal conditions and that drivers comply with established regulations. This oversight helps build confidence in families traveling across the country to enjoy their vacations.

“For us, it’s peak season: Easter, the august and december holidays; we are constantly monitoring. Our teams are deployed throughout the country ensuring that traffic regulations are being respected”, the official said, referring to the importance of maintaining these operations during periods of high traffic.

The Government of El Salvador’s commitment is to prevent emergencies and protect the lives of the population, creating the conditions for everyone to enjoy the August Festivals in peace. The authorities seek to ensure safe and peaceful environments for salvadorans and visitors.
