With an investment exceeding US$37 million, the Planta Ciclo Binario Berlín 2was inaugurated at the Berlin Geothermal Power Plant, located in the department of Usulután. This project strengthens clean energy generation and the capacity of the national electricity system.
The new plant allows for the utilization of previously wasted geothermal waste heat, transforming it into electricity through an efficient and environmentally responsible process. Thanks to this technology, more than 40,000 megawatt-hours per year are added, equivalent to 7.5 megawatts of additional power, increasing LaGeo’s installed capacity to 204.4 megawatts.

The president of the Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL), Daniel Álvarez, emphasized that this advancement directly contributes to strengthening the national electricity system, while also promoting the use of renewable and sustainable energy sources.
The Planta Ciclo Binario Berlín 2 is part of the energy expansion plan being implemented in the country, aimed at generating positive impacts not only in the energy sector, but also in the economic and social spheres, especially in the communities near the geothermal plant.

This project reaffirms the commitment to local development, geothermal energy, economic growth, and social transformation, consolidating El Salvador as a country committed to modernization and competitiveness through the generation of clean and renewable energy.
