Because access to education is key to building a better country, the deputies of the Legislative Assembly approved, with 60 votes, an amendment to the Budget Law 2024. This amendment will allow financing the “Dagoberto Gutiérrez Legislative Scholarships” program, for the benefit of salvadoran children and youth. During the 20th plenary session, it was announced that the current budget for this project, from July to December of this year, amounts to US$792,000.
For the years 2025 and 2026, the amount allocated will be US$1,584,000 for each year, while in 2027 US$1,040,000 will be allocated for the period from january to april. In total, the program will have an overall amount of US$5 million.
The head of the Nuevas Ideas faction, Christian Guevara, pointed out that the financing comes from the savings generated by measures such as the reduction from 80 to 60 deputies, without affecting the efficiency of the legislative work. The scholarships were named in honor of social leader Dagoberto Gutiérrez, who passed away in july of this year.
The parliamentarians confirmed that they are committed to the proper use of state resources for the efficiency of public spending.
“This is a commitment that the Cyan bench had with salvadorans and today we are following up on the scholarship program”, said the head of the Nuevas Ideas faction. The parliamentarian explained that this money is the result of the savings from the measures that have been implemented.
