Holcim, through its Fundación Holcim, joined forces with Universidad Don Bosco (UDB) to develop the second edition of the Introduction to Construction Diploma, which is part of the MUJERES A LA OBRA program, a pioneering program that seeks to train women, many of them heads of household, to develop their skills in the construction sector. On this occasion, 29 women from different regions of the country completed their training process, strengthening the role of women in the construction sector.
The diploma course, which began on august 24, offered comprehensive training with 58 hours of learning distributed in eight modules. Participants received instruction in topics such as emotional intelligence, sustainability, electricity, occupational safety and technical construction practices, combining virtual theory sessions with saturday practical sessions at the UDB campus in Soyapango.
“At Holcim, we firmly believe in the transformative potential of women. This diploma course is a sign of our commitment to make the construction sector more inclusive, sustainable and equitable. These women inspire us with their dedication and demonstrate that there are no gender barriers for those who truly want to excel. Each one of them represents a story of effort and we are proud to be part of their path to new income opportunities”, said Marcelo Arrieta, CEO of Holcim El Salvador.
For this second edition, the call was made at a national level, with the participation of women from Ilopango, Soyapango, San Martín, Tonacatepeque, San Marcos, Antiguo Cuscatlán, Mejicanos, Suchitoto, San Miguel, Chinameca, among other areas.
Xiomara Martinez, Secretary General of Universidad Don Bosco stressed that education has the power to change lives and said “for Universidad Don Bosco it is an honor to contribute to train women who are leading change in their communities. For us it is key to highlight the role of women and train them for the future so that they have access to new job opportunities; and we have chosen strategic allies such as Holcim to introduce them to the world of sustainable construction. This is the second edition of this diploma course, which has been very well received by the women and this motivates us to promote their economic and social empowerment”.
Adriana Martínez, one of the participants in the course, said: “We often underestimate what we are capable of achieving. We believe that our limitations are greater than they really are, but the truth is that we are capable of much more than we imagine. No matter what stage of life we are in, it is never too late to keep learning”.
