32 young people, between 18 and 30 years old, were certified as “Technicians Installers and Repairers of Electrical Power Networks in Medium and Low Voltage”, under an agreement between the Instituto Nacional de Capacitación y Formación (INCAF), the Skills for Employment Project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and DAI, and Distribuidora de Electricidad DELSUR, part of the Grupo EPM.
This alliance was created in may 2024, with the objective of creating a free technical training program for young people with a high school education who are interested in working professionally in the electricity sector. As a result of this alliance, INCAF, with the technical support of DELSUR, launches the first national certification in this field, establishing for the first time in the country an educational offer for professionals who wish to work in jobs related to electrical networks.
The participants in this first group had five months of training, in which they acquired key technical knowledge of electricity fundamentals, electrical safety, equipment and tools, work in electrical networks, electrical equipment and protections in electrical distribution networks, in a program of 753 training hours.
In addition, as part of the USAID project support, they received training in life skills, job orientation and psychosocial support through partner Fe y Alegría, providing them with comprehensive training that prepares them to successfully face the challenges of the work environment.
This joint effort opens up greater opportunities for them to access their first job in a sector with high demand in the country, helping to fill the gap in qualified talent in the electrical sector. The alliance between DELSUR, INCAF, USAID and DAI is an example of a coordinated effort between the public and private sectors and international cooperation to reduce the gap between supply and demand in the labor market, responding to the needs of employers and promoting practical learning.
These professional training actions are aligned with the mandate of the INCAF law to strengthen the skills and competencies of salvadoran human talent, to improve the productivity and competitiveness of workers and companies, contributing to the economic development of El Salvador.
