As part of its commitment to social responsibility, AES Medioambiente reaffirms its dedication to the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity in El Salvador. With the objective of protecting the country’s coastal ecosystem, more than 40 volunteers from AES El Salvador, in collaboration with the Fundación Zoológica de El Salvador (FUNZEL) and the Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (MARN), carried out a reforestation day at Los Almendros Beach, located in Acajutla.
During this activity, more than 10 species of native trees were planted to restore about one hectare of the dry forest “El Zope”, in Playa Los Almendros, which is part of the Natural Protected Area Complejo Los Cóbanos, in the department of Sonsonate. This area, which suffered fire damage in 2023, is now benefiting from reforestation efforts that seek to revitalize its natural resources and ensure its long-term conservation.
The region’s green spaces are critical for coastal protection, acting as natural storm barriers and helping to mitigate soil erosion. In addition, these environments provide refuge for numerous species of wildlife, thus contributing to local biodiversity.
Virginia Trujillo, Director of Communications and External Relations at AES El Salvador, said: “We are committed to the environment and consider it essential to promote sustainable initiatives. This reforestation represents a significant step towards the protection of our coasts and the conservation of marine life”.
The FUNZEL representative underscored the relevance of partnerships between the private sector, non-profit organizations and the government to achieve lasting environmental goals. “Collaboration is crucial to restore and protect our ecosystems, and activities such as this one bring us closer to a more sustainable future”, she said.
This initiative at Playa Los Almendros is part of the AES Medio Ambiente program, which aims to preserve biodiversity and protect the country’s environment, thus promoting a greener future and a balance between development and the conservation of flora and fauna.
AES is committed to implementing sustainable practices that minimize its environmental impact and promote ecosystem restoration. Through initiatives such as reforestation, the company seeks not only to mitigate the damage caused by human activity, but also to involve the community in protecting the natural environment. AES promotes environmental education and awareness of the importance of conservation in order to ensure a sustainable legacy for future generations.
