“With the support of the Government of El Salvador and Fundemas”
Productos Alimenticios DIANA presents the “Algo no encaja” campaign, an innovative initiative in collaboration with the Government of El Salvador and the Fundación Empresarial para la Acción Social (FUNDEMAS). This project seeks to raise public awareness about proper waste management, using a powerful visual resource that contrasts the beauty of the country’s emblematic landscapes with the negative effects of pollution.
Every day, El Salvador generates approximately 4,226.48 tons of waste, of which an alarming 81% ends up in landfills. Faced with this problem, it is essential that all sectors of the country work together to find sustainable solutions that address the issue from various perspectives, including education, which is one of the central objectives of this campaign.
With the support of FUNDEMAS and the salvadoran government, DIANA joins the fight to improve waste management and promote responsible practices among citizens. This collaboration underscores the importance of adopting a comprehensive and multi-sectoral approach to address this challenge.
DIANA’s effort to educate and raise public awareness through “Algo no encaja” complements other awareness-raising initiatives. More than 80% of the waste generated every day has the potential to be converted into raw material for new products, such as fertilizers from organic matter or plastic packaging from PET bottles. Almost all materials can be recycled, thus facilitating the transition from a linear to a circular economy.
Luis Núñez, DIANA’s Legal and Corporate Affairs Director, states that “at DIANA we firmly believe that we all have a crucial role to play in the conservation of our environment. With the ‘Something “Algo no encaja” campaign, we invite the population to reflect on the impact of their daily habits and to take concrete actions to reduce pollution. It is vital to preserve the natural beauty of our country for future generations”.
The main objective of the campaign is to raise public awareness about the correct use of garbage containers and the importance of not throwing garbage in the streets. It seeks to challenge the cultural indifference towards the problem of solid waste and encourage a change of behavior in Salvadoran society.
The campaign can be seen at various points of high affluence, through billboards, mupis and bus stops. DIANA invites all citizens to participate in this joint initiative.
Luis Núñez also emphasized that the ultimate purpose of “Algo no Encaja” is to create a culture of cleanliness, order and care for the environment in El Salvador. DIANA’s involvement in sustainability goes beyond waste treatment; it includes programmes focused on conserving the country’s water and aquifer.
In addition, DIANA is running its «Business Builders» project, which supports micro-entrepreneurs in Surf City through accounting and finance training, with the aim of enabling these entrepreneurs to develop sustainable businesses.
Through its efforts, DIANA has recycled 90% of its waste, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability. The company continues to explore new ways of reusing resources, thus contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future for El Salvador.
