Movistar El Salvador, in partnership with the Fundación Amigos de la Educación (FUNDAEDUCA) and the la Escuela Superior de Economía y Negocios (ESEN), developed an environmental awareness project in public schools, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and raising new generations of environmentally responsible students.

This effort was part of Movistar’s Sustainability area, supported by its ISO 14001:2015 environmental certification and its ongoing “Cambiá a Verde” electronics recycling program. In this first phase of the project, awareness was raised among more than 100 students in public schools, thus strengthening the culture of recycling and proper waste management in the classroom.

“These types of initiatives reaffirmed our vision of sustainability as a cross-cutting business focus. As the only green operator with environmental certification in the country, we are committed to projects that not only generate a positive environmental impact but also actively engage youth and education”, said Eduardo Solórzano, Director of Corporate Affairs at Movistar El Salvador.

The project was carried out under the leadership of young volunteers from the Raíces Association of ESEN, who were previously trained by the Fundación Empresarial para la Acción Social (FUNDEMAS) in recycling and solid waste management. These student volunteers subsequently shared their knowledge with four schools within the FUNDAEDUCA educational network:

- Centro Escolar Hacienda Florencia, Nuevo Cuscatlán
- Centro Escolar Pedro Pablo Castillo, Nuevo Cuscatlán
- Centro Escolar Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos, Santa Tecla
“Partnering with the private sector and higher education institutions was key to strengthening the work we do in schools. This project demonstrated that environmental education can be experiential and transformative for our students”, said Fátima Valencia, executive director of FUNDAEDUCA.
As part of FUNDAEDUCA’s sponsorship projects, volunteers gave educational talks on the environmental impact of waste, the importance of proper sorting, and the active role each student can play. As a symbolic and creative closing, the students created collaborative murals, reflecting their learning and commitment to the environment.

“For ESEN, it is essential that our students have these opportunities, as it not only allows them to fulfill their community service but also to raise environmental awareness and contribute to causes that directly impact society. It has been a deeply enriching experience, both academically and personally”, said Fátima Rivera, Student Director at ESEN.
With this initiative, Movistar El Salvador reaffirms its commitment to promoting comprehensive and sustainable environmental education.
