To join the World Autism Awareness Day, Walmart de México y Centroamérica, will implement starting this april 2, the “Hora sensorial”, with the purpose of helping people to have a better shopping experience, especially customers with sensory hypersensitivity.

Every day, in the first hour of opening of its 929 stores in the region, in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, sensory stimuli, that is, those that a person perceives through the senses, will be reduced. In El Salvador, the sensory hour will be applied in its 4 store formats: Despensa Familiar, Maxi Despensa, Walmart and La Despensa de Don Juan.

To achieve this, screens will be turned off, lights or loud sounds will be dimmed, microphone announcements will be avoided, and the use of noisy machinery, such as those used in cleaning, maintenance, and forklifts on the sales floor, among other actions, will be suspended.

Sandra Ganuza, Corporate Affairs Coordinator for El Salvador, explained that “with the implementation of the Sensory Hour, Walmart reaffirms its commitment to promote more accessible places, in line with its purpose of helping Central American families save money and improve their quality of life.
In addition to promoting accessibility, the initiative provides a more pleasant shopping experience and innovative solutions that contribute to the overall well-being of customers, associates, suppliers and the public, Ganuza said.

This project is part of Walmart’s commitment to become a regenerative company that restores, conserves, and generates wellness. So do not be surprised when you see less sensory stimuli in Walmart stores, as this is an initiative to generate greater respect and empathy towards people.
