As head of household and faced with the need to support her three children, Gloria Aguilar started making handmade chocolate; and, as her own initiative, she decided to knock on the doors of a branch of La Despensa de Don Juan to offer her product.

The supermarket gave her the opportunity and that allowed her to start marketing 25 packages of chocolate, which were multiplied, thanks to the support received by the brand and the acceptance of consumers. The growth was also expanding to other stores of the brand.

Doña Gloria received help from the store manager, who taught her how to prepare invoices and, over time, she joined the Una Mano para Crecer program, a project that since 2007 has been promoting the development of small and medium-sized local suppliers, who grow through the advice Walmart offers them and the opportunities to market their products in various establishments such as Despensa de Don Juan, Maxi Despensa, Walmart and Despensa Familiar.
“I advise SMEs that are starting out to have confidence in Walmart. I started with little and now I sell a lot. Thanks to the fact that they have given me a hand in many ways. They have always listened to us and supported us to continue working”, said Gloria Aguilar.

With Walmart’s assistance, El Buen Chocolate was able to take the necessary steps to grow and adapt to the needs of its customers, who are supplied in different formats. The changes that El Buen Chocolate has undergone are the improvement of the product with modifications to the packaging for greater durability, the creation of a name and brand to improve the presentation and identification of the product and different presentations for all tastes.

The “Una Mano para Crecer” program provides small and medium-sized companies with the opportunity to receive training to improve their processes and the quality of their products; financing that facilitates their daily operations and participation in fairs and markets, expanding the reach of their products to more consumers. Walmart is a company with a firm commitment to local SMEs, offering them tools that enhance their development, such as payments and credit cards.
