
The Legislative Assembly’s Finance Committee began its analysis of the nation’s 2026 general budget proposal, with the participation of Finance minister Jerson Posada, who detailed the budget allocations to various state institutions.

The breakdown reveals a considerable distribution of resources, highlighting that the Ministry of Security will receive $702.6 million, while Defense will receive $334.6 million. The health sector will receive $1.325 billion, and the education sector, one of the most important, will receive $1.641 billion, including specific resources for the University of El Salvador, with $116.5 million.
Other key sectors will receive significant funding, such as agriculture with $165 million, an increase of $72.8 million compared to the previous year, and public works with $934.8 million. The labor sector will have 115 million, culture 30.9 million—an increase of 3.2 million—and housing 13.6 million.

The budget for institutions within the Public Ministry, including the Procuraduría General, Derechos Humanos and Fiscalía will be $135.5 million, with the Fiscalía General allocated $91.7 million, reflecting an increase of $3.1 million. Additionally, the Court of Accounts will receive an allocation of $55.8 million.

These figures indicate a budget distribution that seeks to strengthen priority areas such as security, health, and education, in addition to maintaining resources allocated to justice and oversight, in a context where investment in these institutions is key to ensuring the country’s sustainable development and economic stability.
