The Banco Central de Reserva de El Salvador (BCR) reported that the national beekeeping sector has 2,467 apiaries and 69,084 hives, according to preliminary results from the Fifth Agricultural Census 2025, positioning it as an activity with high potential for productive, economic, and environmental growth.
According to the BCR, the marketing of bee products is primarily focused on direct sales to the end consumer, allowing beekeepers to improve their income and respond to a growing demand for natural products such as honey and its derivatives.

In addition to its economic contribution, the BCR emphasizes that beekeeping plays a strategic role in crop pollination, contributing to increased agricultural productivity and biodiversity conservation, key factors for the sustainability of the primary sector.
The information generated by the census, conducted with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), provides a solid foundation for designing public policies aimed at strengthening training, access to financing, and the orderly expansion of this activity.
