El Salvador continues to reap benefits after the adoption of bitcoin as legal tender. According to the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, entrepreneurs who have integrated this cryptocurrency into their businesses have experienced a 30% increase in their sales revenues. This was stated during the Plan B Forum, the main Bitcoin conference in Central America.
The official highlighted that currently more than 500 establishments in the country accept bitcoin payments and have reported an increase in their commercial activity. Of these businesses, more than 60% are located in San Salvador and La Libertad, two of the country’s main tourist destinations.
This growth coincides with the increase in the flow of visitors to these areas, suggesting that the use of bitcoin has been a key factor in the development of tourism. “That means that bitcoin goes hand in hand with the growth of tourism”, Valdez emphasized, underscoring the relationship between the adoption of the cryptocurrency and the strengthening of the sector.
The salvadoran government has promoted various strategies to position the country as an attractive destination for cryptocurrency enthusiasts. Places like El Zonte, known as “Bitcoin Beach”, have been instrumental in attracting tourists interested in the digital ecosystem and the experience of using bitcoin in everyday life.
With these results, El Salvador consolidates its position as a benchmark in the integration of financial technologies in tourism, generating opportunities for entrepreneurs and strengthening the local economy through innovation.
