The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) announced non-reimbursable technical cooperation of up to US$725,000 to improve the logistics of AgroMercados in El Salvador. CABEI Country Director Alejandro Zelaya, together with Vice Minister of Agriculture Óscar Domínguez, formalized this support, which will enable the acquisition of means of transportation to optimize the distribution of agricultural products.

The AgroMercados of the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) are a key strategy for guaranteeing access to fresh food at fair prices. Thanks to this investment, small producers will be able to take their products directly to consumers without intermediaries, reducing costs and benefiting the family economy.
This initiative reinforces the government’s commitment to food security and support for the agricultural sector. With improved transportation and logistics, Salvadorans will have access to a greater variety of quality products at strategic points in the country.

AgroMercados are currently present in several departments such as San Salvador, Santa Ana, La Libertad, Sonsonate, San Miguel, and Ahuachapán, bringing fresh produce to thousands of Salvadoran families. This expansion is possible thanks to a joint effort between the government and international organizations such as CABEI.
Financing not only strengthens the infrastructure of the AgroMercados, but also boosts the local economy. With accessible prices and without intermediaries, it promotes fair trade and the welfare of producers and consumers throughout the country.
