The ASI Analytics Third Quarter 2025 report reveals that the central region continues to be the main destination for remittances sent to the country, concentrating US$2,933.3 million, equivalent to 35.7% of the national total. San Salvador leads this flow, with US$1,508.6 million, consolidating its position as the department that receives the most economic support from the diaspora.
San Salvador leads nationally
The department of San Salvador stands out by receiving more than half (51.4%) of all remittances entering the central region, an attribute driven by its population density and the high presence of households with family members abroad.
Eastern region ranks second
The eastern region ranks as the second largest recipient of remittances, with US$2,451.9 million and a 29.9% share. Within this region, departments such as San Miguel and Usulután show significant increases, solidifying their position among the areas most dependent on these flows.
Western region maintains strong share
The western region ranks third, receiving US$1,419.0 million, equivalent to 17.3% of the total. The departments of Santa Ana and Sonsonate lead this growth, driven by increases exceeding 19%.
The central region continues to grow
The Central region reported US$997 million in remittances, representing 12.1% of the total. Departments such as Cabañas and San Vicente show an upward trend, with increases exceeding 25%.

The report highlights that the departments receiving the most remittances tend to maintain more stable levels of consumption and economic activity, underscoring the fundamental role of these funds for salvadoran households.
