The Finance Committee of the Legislative Assembly gave the green light to the transitory decree that will allow the remission of interest and surcharges for non-compliance in water and sewage services. The measure will benefit more than 93,000 accounts, whose accumulated debt amounts to US$71 million.
The President of the Administración Nacional de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (ANDA), Jorge Castaneda, explained that users will be able to take advantage of this benefit until december 30, 2024. To regularize their payments, it will be necessary to pay 10% of the total debt as part of a flexible payment plan.
In the areas recovered under the territorial control plan, users will receive a “clean slate”, completely eliminating accumulated debts, interest and surcharges. This benefit seeks to alleviate the economic burden of communities affected by high levels of delinquency.
For the rest of the users, the forgiveness will focus on interest and accumulated delinquencies, guaranteeing significant financial relief. The initiative also includes payment terms of up to 12 months, extendable to 18 months in exceptional cases.
In addition, those who were already under a payment plan will be able to recalculate their debts under the new conditions of the decree, achieving greater flexibility and transparency in the management of their financial commitments.
This measure, according to Castaneda, not only seeks to improve the quality of service, but also to strengthen ANDA’s sustainability, promoting a fairer and more efficient relationship with users.
