Ricardo Salazar, president of the Defensoría del Consumidor, confirmed these achievements, especially highlighting the intensive work of the last six years. During this period, the institution has experienced an exponential increase in case resolutions, recovering more than US$150 million, underscoring its more effective and closer-to-the-savior administration.
Salazar emphasized the significant progress and positive impact on the lives of thousands of salvadorans thanks to the current administration. He explained that the Defensoría del Consumidor now has 67 violations, 40 more than initially recorded. This regulatory strengthening is key to a robust regulatory framework against abusive practices.

In detail, of the US$199 million recovered over two decades, US$156.9 million corresponds exclusively to the last six years. This figure is clear evidence that the recent administration has transformed consumer protection, setting a new standard of efficiency and closeness to the public.
The president reiterated that there is a “deployment of powers, new competencies, and areas of action”, which positions the Defensoría del Consumidor closer than ever to issues of interest to consumers. This translates into a direct and tangible impact on the economic well-being of the population, according to his statements.

Furthermore, the official added that more than 580,000 consumers have benefited during this same period thanks to the resolution of 106,000 cases. These results demonstrate the vision of the work that prioritizes the defense of citizens’ rights, guaranteeing modern and effective institutions for the benefit of all salvadorans.
