The study shows that Brazil has the highest cost in the region, with an average of US$115.16 per person. In contrast, Nicaragua (US$65.39) and El Salvador (US$65.97) are among the countries with the lowest costs, although with fewer products in the food basket.
Mexico stands out with a particularity because, although the per capita cost of its food basket is US$116.63, the number of products included is the highest, with 222 foods.
The report also highlights that Uruguay and Costa Rica, with costs of US$128.46 and US$116.45 respectively, have a more expensive food basket than the regional average. In these countries, high prices affect the purchasing power of citizens and can affect food security.
