The director general of Customs of El Salvador, Benjamín Mayorga, announced a strategic meeting with diplomatic representatives from Qatar, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries in customs matters.
The meeting took place at the Qatari Embassy in El Salvador, where Mayorga met with the Chargé d’Affaires Fahad Al-Marri. During the meeting, both parties discussed developing a joint agenda focused on modernizing and strengthening customs systems.
Cooperation to modernize customs
According to the official, this meeting will allow progress toward the creation of a cooperation agreement focused on the exchange of experiences, technical training, and mutual support.
The main objective is to strengthen institutional capacities in key areas such as the prevention of illicit activities, customs control, and trade facilitation, contributing to more efficient and secure management.
This type of international alliance seeks to position El Salvador as a country with modern, well-coordinated customs aligned with global standards, facilitating trade and improving competitiveness.
A Step toward international agreements
One of the most relevant aspects of the dialogue is the possibility of moving, in the future, toward a Mutual Recognition Agreement within the framework of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program.

This mechanism would allow companies certified in both countries to benefit from more agile and secure processes in international trade, reducing inspection times and strengthening confidence in the logistics chain.
Impact on trade and security
The implementation of this type of agreement contributes to:
• Improving security in international trade
• Facilitating the transit of goods
• Strengthening institutional cooperation
• Reducing risks associated with illicit activities
Furthermore, it opens opportunities for Salvadoran companies to expand their operations in international markets with greater guarantees and efficiency.
International projection
With this approach, El Salvador continues to strengthen its international relations and its integration into global trade networks, committing to the modernization of its processes and strategic cooperation with other countries.
This type of initiative reinforces the country’s commitment to consolidating a more secure, efficient customs system that is better connected to the dynamics of global trade.
