From april 29 to may 12, 2025, the reference prices of fuels in El Salvador will drop US$0.02 in all categories: premium gasoline, regular and diesel, according to the Dirección General de Energía, Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM).

In the central zone, the new prices will be US$3.75 for premium gasoline, US$3.49 for regular gasoline and US$3.23 for diesel. Meanwhile, in the western zone, US$3.76 will be paid for a gallon of premium gasoline, US$3.50 for regular gasoline and US$3.24 for diesel. In the eastern zone, prices will be US$3.79, US$3.53, and US$3.28, respectively.
It is important to clarify that the reference prices include current taxes, as well as the Contribution for the Stabilization of Contribución para la Estabilización de las Tarifas del Servicio Público del Transporte Colectivo de Pasajeros de tipo colectivo y masivo (COTRANS), the Fondo de Estabilización del Fomento Económico (FEFE), and the Impuesto Especial a los Combustibles (IEC).

This decrease occurs in an international context influenced by several key factors. A possible trade rapprochement between the United States and China to reduce tariffs has generated volatility in hydrocarbon prices.
In addition, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies have proposed to increase oil production starting in june. This initiative has caused a downward trend in international prices, which favors a slight reduction in reference prices in the salvadoran market. Another factor affecting this drop is that Kazakhstan has exceeded its production quota imposed by OPEC, increasing the supply of oil in the international market. This greater availability also contributes to stabilize prices at a global level.

Verifications have been reinforced at service stations to guarantee the quantity and quality of fuels, with the objective of ensuring that the population receives the volume with the required technical specifications, thus confirming that the exact amount paid for is delivered.
DGEHM inspectors constantly monitor the market for companies that sell petroleum products. If violations of the law are found, they are subject to the corresponding sanctions. All this with the goal of ensuring that the end consumer obtains the maximum benefits from their purchase and that salvadorans can choose the gas station that provides the best service.
