The Dirección General de Energía, Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM) has published the new reference prices for fuel, effective from november 12 to 25, 2024. These prices reflect a significant reduction of up to US$0.05 and S$0.08 in the different types of fuel, which represents a relief for the pockets of Salvadorans in a context of constant fluctuations in the global energy market.
In the Central Zone, the price of premium gasoline decreases US$0.05, reaching US$3.69 per gallon; while regular gasoline decreases US$0.08, now costing US$3.61 per gallon. Diesel also experiences a reduction of US$0.04, settling at US$3.40 per gallon.
For the Western Zone, the prices of premium and regular gasoline follow a similar trend, with premium at US$3.70 and regular at US$3.62. The price of diesel in this region also decreases, settling at US$3.41.
In the Eastern Zone, premium gasoline adjusts to US$3.74, with a reduction of US$0.05, and regular gasoline decreases US$0.08, reaching US$3.66. Diesel also registers a decrease, reaching a price of US$3.45 in this area.
This recent drop in fuel prices in El Salvador is due to international factors that have influenced the energy market. Among them, the increase in oil, gasoline and diesel reserves in the United States, as reported by the International Energy Agency (IEA), which has generated a greater supply and, consequently, a reduction in international prices of hydrocarbons. In addition, oil production in the United States reached a record high of 13.5 million barrels per day, surpassing the average of 12.9 million barrels per day in 2023.
Likewise, in october, oil imports from China decreased for the sixth consecutive month due to the closure of a state-owned refinery and lower demand for crude oil from independent refineries, also contributing to the downward trend in prices.
The DGEHM reaffirms its commitment to review reference prices every two weeks, adjusting them according to market variations, with the objective of offering fair and competitive prices to consumers throughout the country.
