More than US$500,000 was invested in the construction and equipment of five surveillance towers on beaches in the eastern part of the country. Located in El Tamarindo, El Esterón and El Cuco, these structures are part of circuit 2 of the Surf City strategy and seek to improve the safety of tourists and locals.

The towers were inaugurated this sunday as part of an inter-institutional effort. Each is equipped with defibrillators, first aid kits and rescue tools for rapid emergency response. “This will generate opportunities on the beaches where the project is being implemented”, said Luis Alonso Amaya, director of Civil Protection.

The project was made possible thanks to an alliance with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which has supported key initiatives for tourism in El Salvador.

“The country has experienced a faster recovery than its neighbors”, said Queila Delgado, IDB representative. In addition to improving safety, the towers have been built with materials resistant to the marine environment and are powered by solar energy, contributing to environmental sustainability.

The minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, highlighted that this investment strengthens the work of lifeguards: “They are our heroes, we are providing them with better tools”.

El Salvador continues to stand out in international tourism with accelerated growth in recent years, driven by improvements in infrastructure, security and promotion of its natural attractions.
