The Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería expects to serve more than 600,000 people during the Holy Week season, representing a 14% increase compared to the previous year. This increase in migration flow reflects greater dynamism in the tourism sector, which translates into economic benefits for the country.

The Director of Immigration, Ricardo Cucalón, explained that a strong influx of visitors is expected from countries such as Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, the United States, Mexico, and various European nations. “This is Holy Week, a global holiday, and it is much busier than in august and Christmas”, he stated, highlighting the positive economic impact that tourism will generate in sectors such as transportation, lodging, gastronomy, and local commerce.
To ensure efficient service and contribute to the development of the tourism economy, the institution will operate overtime on april 14 and 15 at its Las Cascadas, San Miguel, Usulután, and Santa Ana branches. Cucalón also urged citizens to complete their immigration procedures in advance, especially passports, to avoid inconveniences that could affect their travel experience.

Likewise, the Immigration Department called on tour operators to use online pre-check-in to facilitate tourist transit and avoid delays that could negatively impact travel logistics and the use of tourism resources.
The director emphasized that service processes have been improved at all land, air, and sea borders, with the goal of offering a streamlined service that supports the growth of tourism, which represents an important source of income for the national economy.
