In april, salvadoran sales abroad totaled US$588.1 million, an amount higher than in any april since foreign trade records have been kept.
Coffee exports stood out in the four-month period with an increase of US$23.1 million, going from US$53.4 million (up to april 2021) to US$76.6 million in the same period of this year. The observed growth was 43.3% in value and 0.9% in terms of volume.
The manufacturing industry, including maquila, reported exports for US$2,364.2 million through april, US$300.0 million higher than the same period of 2021 with a growth of 14.5%. The sectors that stood out the most were: maquila manufacturing industry with US$477.8 million, clothing (US$431.3 million), food products (US$347.2 million), textile products manufacturing (US$202.8 million), and rubber and plastic products with US$186 million.
The maquila industry closed the first four months of 2022 with exports worth US$477.8 million and a growth of 14.8%. Knitted apparel with US$301.6 million (8.9% growth) and electronic capacitors with US$88.2 million (15.1%) remained the main maquila goods, also highlighting the 63.2% increase for non-knitted apparel with an additional US$6.8 million.
Central America was the main destination for salvadoran exports with US$1,116.5 million (45.1% of the total), followed by the United States with US$962.9 million (38.9% of the total), which together acquired 84% of salvadoran goods.
