Economic development and women’s empowerment have received a significant boost in the department of La Paz. The Mayor’s Office of La Paz Oeste, in coordination with the Asociación de Mujeres Salvadoreñas por la Paz (ORMUSA), delivered 28 agricultural packages to women in the district of San Luis Talpa. This initiative seeks to strengthen the beneficiaries’ productive development and economic independence.

The delivery of this support was made possible thanks to an important collaboration. The City Council of Burgos, Spain, acted as the project sponsor, demonstrating its commitment to the development of the area. Furthermore, Jeannette Urquilla, Director of ORMUSA, has been instrumental in managing and supporting these types of initiatives that empower rural women.

Each agricultural package includes essential inputs for successful planting, such as corn seeds, fertilizers, foliar sprays, and other treated products. The goal is for the beneficiaries to have the necessary tools to efficiently grow their own crops. This not only promotes food security but also encourages the creation of small agricultural businesses.

In addition to the materials, the women received essential technical support. Engineer Rafael Hernández of CENTA and municipal technician Emilio Baires gave a talk on the cultivation process, ensuring that the beneficiaries had the necessary knowledge to achieve the best results. This training is crucial for the long-term success of the project.

This initiative represents a firm commitment to agricultural development with a gender perspective. The Mayor’s Office of La Paz and ORMUSA recognize the vital role women play in the rural economy and seek to enhance their productive capacity.

Mayor Salvador Menéndez and the participating institutions reaffirm their commitment to continue working on projects that promote equality and progress in the region. Women’s economic autonomy is not only a matter of rights, but also an engine of development that has a positive impact on society as a whole.
