The Ad-Honorem deputy minister of Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), Óscar Domínguez, reported that the government continues to strengthen the Production Increase Program with new actions aimed at expanding cultivated areas and taking advantage of land with true agricultural potential in the country.
According to the official’s account on X, a major project focused on tomato production is currently underway. The area involved is intended for open-air cultivation and has 18 protected cultivation structures, each covering almost one block.
In total, this area alone will exceed 80 blocks dedicated exclusively to tomato production, representing a significant increase in the national production capacity of this crop.
The deputy minister explained that these actions are part of a comprehensive strategy that seeks not only to increase food production, but also to strengthen the work of producers, generate more opportunities in the rural sector, and boost the agricultural economy. The approach includes the efficient use of land and the incorporation of infrastructure to optimize yields and reduce risks associated with climatic factors.
Domínguez emphasized that this project is in addition to the 2,400 acres already active within the program at the national level, which shows a progressive expansion of productive areas.
He also assured that the effort will not stop at this stage. The plan envisages continuing to expand cultivated areas in different parts of the country, with the aim of achieving higher production levels by 2026.
“2025 brought us solid results, but now the goal is clear: more cultivated land, greater production, and more opportunities for our rural communities”, said the official, who announced that they will return to the area in a month to verify the progress, which (he said) will be noticeable.
With these actions, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock reaffirms its commitment to strengthening food security, boosting agricultural productivity, and directly supporting salvadoran producers.
