With an initial investment of US$7.5 million, the Government of El Salvador began renovation and improvement work this Wednesday at the Escuela Nacional de Agricultura (ENA), a key institution for the country’s agricultural and agro-industrial development.
The project includes the complete modernization of the academic, administrative, and practical facilities, with the goal of ensuring a dignified, safe, and top-tier learning environment that meets the current needs of the national agricultural sector.

According to Odette Varela, director of the ENA and the Centro Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria y Forestal (CENTA),this project represents a decisive step toward transforming higher agricultural education, promoting the sustainability of the agro-industrial sector, and creating a platform for innovation, regional integration, and economic development in El Salvador.

The director of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) for El Salvador, Alejandro Zelaya, emphasized that the investment in this phase is just the beginning of a process that symbolizes a new era for national agriculture. “We are taking the first step in building a new history for agriculture in El Salvador. We will invest $7.5 million in the ENA but this is just a symbol of what this new institution will truly generate for agriculture and for the economy in general”, Zelaya said.
Furthermore, the CABEI director emphasized that intervention in the agricultural sector not only promotes job creation, improves education, and provides more opportunities for young people, but also contributes to lower food prices, generating a direct impact on the economy of salvadoran families.

The minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez, said that the project includes the complete renovation of the ENA’s facilities, with a total investment of approximately US$15 million. “We are going to make all the necessary improvements so that this is a high-quality place for all agricultural students and so that we have better professionals for the future”, he said.

The Secretary of Commerce and Investment, Miguel Kattán, emphasized that the Salvadoran government’s commitment to strengthening the national economy involves modernizing the agricultural sector and providing tools to boost productivity. “The government has achieved peace in our country, and now we are working to achieve economic growth; agriculture is vital for that”, he said.

This effort is a joint undertaking between the Ministerio de Obras Públicas, Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería, Secretaría de Comercio e Inversiones, and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), reaffirming the Salvadoran State’s capacity to coordinate actions among different institutions to improve the quality of life of salvadorans and strengthen national knowledge and productivity.
