Of the 2,006,110 households in the country, the vast majority, 1,915,537, live in private or detached houses, reflecting the predominance of this type of housing among salvadoran families.

The study also details the distribution of households according to tenure. The most representative category corresponds to homeowners, with 1,104,539 households owning their homes.
Meanwhile, 240,022 households live in rented properties, while 405,098 live rent-free, including 44,270 who occupy a room in a house and 2,829 in a ranch. In addition, 87,777 households are acquiring their homes through scheduled payments, and there are owners on public land (45,049) and private land (101,651), as well as settlers and guardians of the home.
In terms of housing types, in addition to private homes, there are apartments, condominiums, rooms in houses, rooms in inns, makeshift dwellings, and shacks, reflecting the diversity of living spaces in the country.
