The Puerto de Acajutla closed 2025 with an 11.20% increase in cargo handled, a result that reflects the direct impact of the modernization efforts implemented by the government in the country’s port infrastructure. This performance confirms sustained progress in the operational efficiency of El Salvador’s main seaport and its contribution to the dynamism of foreign trade.
According to official data, the increase in cargo handled is due to improvements in logistics processes, optimization of operating times, and strengthening of the port’s installed capacity, factors that have allowed it to meet a greater demand for imports and exports during the year.

In addition to overall cargo growth, the Puerto de Acajutla saw a 10.79% increase in the number of units handled during 2025, demonstrating a greater flow of goods and more consistent operations. This positive trend was also reflected in container traffic, with a 12.07% increase in TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), a key indicator of port performance and international trade.
In the containerized cargo segment, the port reported a 4.91% increase in metric tons, confirming greater efficiency in cargo handling and an improved capacity to process high value-added products. These figures solidify the Port of Acajutla’s position as a strategic logistics hub for the salvadoran economy.

Authorities emphasize that these results stem from a comprehensive vision for port modernization, aimed at streamlining processes, reducing logistics costs, and strengthening the country’s competitiveness in international markets. The improved indicators also benefit productive sectors such as industry, commerce, and agricultural exports.
With this growth, the Puerto de Acajutla is positioning itself as a key driver of economic development, facilitating trade and creating more favorable conditions for investment. The performance achieved in 2025 marks a positive trend that reinforces the port system’s role as a pillar of El Salvador’s foreign trade.
