The Banco Central de Reserva (BCR) reported that family remittances reached a new historical record during the month of may, totaling US$899.08 million. This figure not only surpasses the US$805.94 million reported in april, but also surpasses the previous record of US$863.33 million registered in march of this same year.

Between january and may 2025, the country accumulated a total of US$3,974.7 million in remittances, representing an increase of 15.8% compared to the same period in 2024. This steady growth in remittances from abroad reflects the strong economic link of the salvadoran diaspora, especially in the United States, from where 92.5% of the total received came from.
The department of Cabañas led the percentage growth in the receipt of remittances with an increase of 23% compared to the same period of the previous year. San Salvador continues to be the main destination of these funds, with an 8.8% increase between january and may, which shows a general improvement in the economy of recipient households.

According to the BCR report, the average remittance during the first five months of the year was US$347.8, reflecting an upward trend in the amounts sent by salvadorans abroad. This income continues to be a crucial source for domestic consumption and the well-being of thousands of families in the country.
Although the United States continues to be the main country of origin of remittances, there were also significant flows from Canada, Spain, Italy, and Mexico. These remittances not only support the family economy, but also stimulate sectors such as commerce, education, and construction throughout El Salvador.
