Daniel Méndez is a young 26-year-old farmer who is producing beans to supply the national market. He is part of the Production Increase Program, and is convinced that with the support of the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) he will guarantee optimal bean harvests and have better economic margins, by marketing his product directly to the final consumer, eliminating intermediaries.
Méndez is one of the benefited producers in the Las Pozas de San Lorenzo canton, in Ahuachapán, where more than 50 blocks of bean cultivation have been established, with a projected harvest of more than 1,200 quintals.
This productive area contributes to the goal of harvesting thousands of bean apples by the end of 2025. The initiative includes technical assistance, technology, and good traditional practices, which allow the optimization of genetics in seeds that are free of transgenics and resistant to pests and diseases.

MAG technician Robin Cazún explained that the program provides farmers with detailed advice regarding the application of fertilizers, foliars and treatment of high-yield seeds according to their class.

Bean production in El Salvador is advancing positively, thanks to the joint effort between farmers, unions, and the Government. The MAG’s push for the cultivation of winter beans is strategic, since it ensures the availability of grain in the first months of the year, which will be available in AgroMercados at affordable prices.

In addition, the government initiative also offers a network of contacts that makes it easier for producers to obtain financing, adopt new agricultural technologies and modernize production chains, with a high-performance approach.
