El Salvador presented relevant figures in exports, highlighting the United States as the main destination of its products, according to data provided by the Corporación de Exportadores de El Salvador (COEXPORT). Sales to the United States reached US$1,997.5 million, with textile products being the most demanded. However, Silvia Cuéllar, president of COEXPORT, pointed out that, although the volume of exports has grown slightly, the value of exported products has decreased due to a greater demand for lower-cost goods.
Despite this outlook, Cuellar was optimistic for 2025. “We believe that next year we will be recovering that with higher value products. We estimate that in 2025 we will grow more”, said the president of COEXPORT, who emphasized the importance of diversifying exports to enhance the added value of Salvadoran goods. This approach could help balance the figures and generate a positive impact on the national economy.
The services sector has also shown significant growth in recent years. According to COEXPORT, the export of services, which includes tourism, BPO (business process outsourcing), information technology and logistics, has experienced remarkable growth. In eight years, this area has doubled from US$2 billion to US$4 billion in 2022, and is expected to reach US$5 billion by the end of 2024, consolidating itself as an emerging economic pillar.
Cuellar noted that salvadoran franchises are gaining ground in international markets. In collaboration with strategic partners, COEXPORT identified 36 companies ready to export their franchises, of which 32 are small companies and 28 are led by women. These franchises export not only brands, but also inputs, strengthening El Salvador’s presence in foreign markets and demonstrating the sector’s potential to close economic and social gaps.
The future of salvadoran exports looks promising, driven by growth in services and the strengthening of sectors such as textiles and franchises. By 2025, the focus will be on higher value-added products and on consolidating the country as a competitive supplier in international markets, COEXPORT said.
