El Salvador hosts from october 2 to 11 the XXI Codicader 2024 Games, where student athletes from seven countries of the Central American isthmus compete. The opening ceremony took place this wednesday, presided over by the Government of Nayib Bukele, and was full of energy and music.
The event, held at the Las Delicias National Stadium, was headed by Yamil Bukele, ad honorem president of the Instituto Nacional de los Deportes de El Salvador (INDES), together with the interim head of the Ministry of Education, Mauricio Pineda, and representatives of the Consejo del Istmo Centroamericano de Deporte y Recreación (Codicader).
“It is a privilege to show our Central American brothers the new El Salvador, where sport is a priority and the country’s progress is reflected in this area”, said Yamil Bukele.
The Codicader Central American Student Sports Games represent the highest student competition in Central America, with the participation of young people between 15 and 17 years old from El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Belize.
In this edition, 1,467 athletes are expected to participate, with more than 230 from the salvadoran delegation, who will compete in 11 disciplines: chess, soccer, taekwondo, athletics, judo, table tennis, basketball, karate, volleyball, handball and swimming.
Yamil Bukele also highlighted that the current security situation in the country has allowed the promotion of various sports disciplines, allowing the population to enjoy them even more.

The opening ceremony included a vibrant light and music show, with performances by the El Salvador Band and renowned international DJ Steve Aoki, who entertained the audience with his unique beats and threw cakes into the crowd, creating a festive atmosphere full of laughter and dancing. The celebration culminated with a spectacular fireworks show that thrilled everyone in attendance.
The realization of these games by the Salvadoran government represents a great commitment to promote the practice and professionalization of sports activities in the country.
